May 2022 Newsletter
Friends,
Frankie : “Mom can I have $30 for rides at the carnival tonight?”
Amy : “Does it look like I’m made of money?”
Frankie : “Well isn’t that what M.O.M. Stands For?”
Next Sunday May 8, 2022 is Mother’s Day in the USA. I wish all of you who are mothers a very special day. I have four personal shout-outs to recognize for Mother’s Day:
To Amy Okrepkie, the mother of our children, Johnny and Frankie, we all love you very much and wish you a special Mother’s Day
To Jane Antonini, my mother, I love you happy Mother’s Day
To Grandma Anne, my mother in law, I love you happy Mother’s Day. I’m grateful to share a birthday with you and thank you for your "Medicare and You" handbook every year.
To Bessie Burton, I’m a son to you, I love you, and I miss you. Happy Mother’s Day and welcome to my monthly newsletter.
May is also a month where many people graduate, so congratulations to those of you who have family members graduating this month. I wish all of you much success and health and happiness in the next phase of your life, especially Kelly Okrepkie and Kyle Adams.
Finally, we close out May with Memorial Day on Monday May 30, 2022 honoring the men and women who died whilst serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season. We will be hosting a family gathering on a parade route, and celebrating two graduations and an anniversary. I hope you enjoy the day as well.
Kind Regards,
Michael Antonini
What’s New
I’m going out on a limb and going to make my first prediction in the what’s new section of my newsletter. Please understand that this has not happened yet and when it does you will either get a news flash or it will be reported in this section of a future newsletter. Here it is:
Medicare will reduce the Part B premium mid-year by $10 a month.
Why? As I have been talking about off and on here and online, Medicare cited an Alzheimer’s drug as a reason to have such a large increase in the Part B premium this year. Then 2 unexpected things happened. 1) The manufacturer, Biogen, slashed the cost of the drug in half. 2) Medicare is limiting the coverage of the drug to patients in clinical trials only.
Therefore, since it cost half the price and is no longer widely available, coupled with the cost of everything going up and the highest inflation in 40 years, something needs to be done to help seniors, even if it’s just a small savings.
