November 2022 Newsletter

Friends,

Q: When did the duck wake up the morning after clocks were turned back?
A: At the quack of dawn.
P.S. We really needed the extra hour to come up with more daylight savings time jokes … Do you have any for me?

This weekend we turn our clocks back and without joking, I must admit it throws me off for about a week. I believe I would prefer to just always be on Atlantic Time. I’ll take a closer look in the Ask an Expert section of this newsletter.

My September prediction of the highest Cost Of Living Adjustment (COLA) in 40 years came true. Plus the Medicare Part B premium is going down for the first time in 10 years from $170.10 to $164.90. Therefore, people on Social Security will have the largest increase in their lifetime.

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and be grateful for all of the blessings in life. I have about 26-30 people I’ll be hosting, so my work availability will be limited from late on Wednesday 11-23 until Monday 11-28 at 9 am.

Kind Regards,
Michael Antonini

What’s New

As predicted right here in September, the 2023 COLA will be 8.7%, the highest increase in over 40 years. Also, I predicted a decrease to the Medicare Part B premium in July. CMS cited technical reasons why they wouldn’t reduce it midyear, but sure enough, it will be reduced in 2023 from $170.10/month to $164.90 a month.

For the past 10 years or so, the COLA was much lower and the Medicare part B premiums were increasing and cutting into the COLA raise. This year you will get your full COLA PLUS $5.20 which reflects the decrease in the part B premium.
Unless you’re over 105 years old, this is the largest increase in your lifetime!

State Rep. Kurt Vail

Ask An Expert: State Rep. Kurt Vail

State Rep. Kurt Vail, a Republican from Stafford Springs in northern Connecticut, has been trying to end the frustration of changing the clocks twice a year in Connecticut.

This article is from this past March 2022 when his latest bill was declined.

This article is from March also where the US Senate approved making daylight savings time permanent next year but I’m not sure if it passed.

My position is that the time changes mess me up both times of the year and I believe permanent Atlantic Time is where the New England states should be. Let’s see if Representative Vail makes try #7 next year.

This is an idea whose time has come.
